Jethro Tull — Ian Anderson in Olomouc
A career retrospective in a two-hour concert
This year may be the last chance to see live the unique blend of folk-rock, blues-rock, hard-rock and jazz fusion embodied in JETHRO TULL. A quick calculation shows that by their next tour, 58 years will have passed since the band's founding and Ian Anderson will turn 77.
JETHRO TULL formed in December 1967. Anderson has led from the start — as composer, lyricist, singer, flutist and occasional guitar, mandolin and bagpipe player. They began with blues-rock but gradually incorporated folk and jazz elements.
As early as 1969 JETHRO TULL topped the UK charts with the album "Stand Up" and earned their first gold record. They broke through in the US too — the fifth studio album "Thick as a Brick" hit number one on the Billboard chart. The follow-ups "Living in the Past" (1972), "A Passion Play" (1973) and "War Child" (1974) were also highly successful. The band won a Grammy for the 1987 album "Crest of a Knave".
JETHRO TULL have sold approximately 60 million albums worldwide, including 11 gold and 5 platinum records. Rolling Stone magazine has called them one of the most commercially successful and eccentric progressive rock bands.
